Beautiful Shiga
Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan and one of the symbols of Shiga Prefecture, is known for some of the most picturesque landscapes in Japan. These landscapes are indelibly etched in the hearts of Shiga's residents as the Eight Views of Lake Biwa and the Eight Views of Omi.
The Eight Views of Lake Biwa
The Eight Views of Lake Biwa were selected to showcase the grandeur and diversity of the landscapes surrounding Lake Biwa.

A mystical fog rising from Lake Biwa envelops this craggy shore in the mornings. A rough and magnificent landscape. |

The green pines and white sands along this shore are celebrated in the Lake Biwa Rowing Song. |

The exquisite beauty of the sunset reflecting on the Seta River, over which the Karahashi Bridge passes, is widely renowned. |

Noted in the annals of history as the location of the famous Battle of Shizugatake, fought between Hashiba Hideyoshi and Shibata Katsuie. |
6 – Deep Green
The reflection of this verdant island on the blue surface of the lake is one of Lake Biwa's best known sights. |

The Eight Views of Omi
Inspired by The Eight Views of Xiaoxiang in Hunan, China, The Eight Views of Omi are said to have been selected by imperial regent Konoe Masaie approximately 500 years ago during the Muromachi period (1336-1573). These scenes are widely known through the work of famed woodblock print artist Ando Hiroshige.
